For those unaware, Gen Con 2019 is just around the corner, happening August 1-4, 2019 in Indianapolis, Indiana. If you would like more information about the convention, you can check out the convention’s website here.
Board Game Geek’s W. Eric Martin (thank you!) has compiled a list of the games that are going to be available either for sale or demo at the convention. The huge list of games can be found here. Currently there over 600 titles on the list and it is growing every day!
Villages of Valeria: Landmarks & Architects
Villages of Valeria: Landmarks & Architects is being published in 2019 by Daily Magic Games. The expansion is designed by Rick Holzgrafe and Isaias Vallejo. The artwork is being supplied by Mihajlo Dimitrievski.
Villages of Valeria: Landmarks & Architects introduces a new mechanic to the game, Villages of Valeria. The mechanic, called Build a Landmark, is one which the players can take if they cannot or choose not to follow the action chosen by the active player. In addition to the Landmarks, the game also introduces Architects, which add further end game scoring opportunities to the game.
Why I am excited about this expansion: All three of us really like the Villages of Valeria game and I have gotten several of the small expansions along the way, so I want to get my hands on this one too.
Merlin: Knights of the Round Table
Merlin: Knights of the Round Table is being published in 2019 by Queen Games. The expansion is being designed by Stefan Feld and Michael Rieneck, the designers of the original game, Merlin. The artist for the expansion is Dennis Lohausen.
Merlin: Knights of the Round Table allows the players to recruit the knights of the round table to their cause to inherit King Arthur’s throne. Each of the knights has their own unique ability.
Why I am excited about this expansion: Beth and I both reallly enjoy the base game, Merlin, and the thought of adding the knights and their special abilities sounds good to me.
Clank! Expeditions: Temple of the Ape Lords
Clank! Expeditions: Temple of the Ape Lords is being published in 2019 by Renegade Game Studios. The expansion is being designed by Tim McKnight with artwork provided by Anika Burrell, Nathan McGuire, Raul Ramos, Nate Storm and Alain Viesca.
Clank! Expeditions: Temple of the Ape Lords allows the players to adventure deep into the jungle where the fabled Temple of the Ape Lords is said to reside. When you find the Temple of the Ape Lords, you can navigate through mechanized passages that the lost civilization left behind – if you dare!
Why I am excited about this expansion: Beth and I are big fans of Clank! and have every expansion up to this point, so we have to get this one, right?
Everdell: Pearlbrook is being published in 2019 by Starling Games. The expansion is being designed by James A Wilson, the original game’s designer. The artwork for the game is being supplied by Andrew Bosley and Dann May.
In Everdell: Pearlbrook, the players can explore a new underwater society. The expansion introduces a new side board called the River board and the players can send an ambassador over there to gather a new resource from the expansion, pearls.
Why I am excited about this expansion: Constructing fabulous wonders and adornments with the pearls sounds just awesome to me! We are big fans of Everdell so it just follows that we would want this expansion.
Sagrada: The Great Facades – Passion
Sagrada: The Great Facades – Passion is being published in 2019 by Floodgate Games. This expansion is being designed by the original game’s designers, Adrian Adamescu and Daryl Andrews. The artwork is being provided by Matt Paquette and Peter Wocken.
Sagrada: The Great Facades – Passion is the first in a planned 3-part expansion series for Sagrada. The other two planned expansions are Life and Glory. The expansions are named after the Sagrada-Familia facades. The Passion expansion adds inspiration cards, rare glass dice and cards, rare glass private objectives, and symmetry public objectives.
Why I am excited about this expansion: I like that the player’s will have individual player powers through the inspiration cards. I think that is a great innovation for this game.
Gen Con 2019
I have never been to Gen Con and likely will never go – way too many people there for me! – but that does not mean that I cannot drool over the games that are going to be available to play, buy, or demo at the convention. I always look forward to new games, new ideas, and innovation in those games. Part two of this list will follow on Wednesday.
There are a lot of games to look forward to this year, just as there always are! What games and expansions are you looking forward to from Gen Con this year?
